Fluctuating Blood Pressure Hypertension?

I have recently recovered from an illness which I was treat for (UTI) during this illness my BP was 180/110 and even since has been consistently been around 150/100 or 160/110 I am getting blood works and ECG next week. Today at home I have noted changes between 120-160 systolic and 85-110 diastolic. The Dr is going to start me on BP meds after blood tests and I also have a cholesterol of 7.2 from medication I am on. I have never had hypertension before. I have been having a lot of headaches and back pain too. I am already on 80mg x twice daily of propanalol for anxiety. However I can honestly say there has been no anxiety issues when taking BP ( I know my body well ). Is this fluctuation normal, is it cardio related or possibly renal related following infection.
